Is couples therapy the right step for our relationship?

When conflict takes over your relationship
Constant tension and disconnection begin to overshadow everything else in your life. You find yourself walking on eggshells, avoiding conversations that used to flow naturally, and feeling like you're failing as a partner despite your best efforts.
Many couples arrive at my office feeling defeated—one partner eager for change while the other remains skeptical about therapy. The fear that seeking help signals the end rather than a new beginning weighs heavily, especially when hope feels distant and patience has worn thin.
A Practical Approach to Couples Therapy
What is The Gottman Method?
- The Gottman Method is a practical, research-based approach to couples therapy. Developed from over 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this method provides a roadmap for understanding what makes relationships succeed or fail.
- Instead of focusing on just talking about problems, the Gottman Method helps couples build a stronger friendship, manage conflict constructively, and create shared meaning. It's about giving you concrete tools to improve your communication, deepen intimacy, and navigate challenges together.
- As a therapist trained in the Gottman Method, I use these proven techniques and assessments to help you build a healthier, more resilient relationship.

How can I help?
Managing the inevitable
- Couples therapy can be a unique space to build upon the strengths already present in your relationship and focus on the areas that might need some touching up.
- Despite therapy having a reputation for talking about our problems, I believe therapy is equally a space to celebrate the strengths of your relationship and to have fun! I help couples not just manage conflict, but also connect through it.
- I have completed all 3 Levels of the Gottman Method training and incorporate these research-based interventions into our work to provide positive and efficient support.
This may be a fit if:
- Recurring arguments
- Communication breakdowns
- Emotional distance
- Trust repair
- Premarital or marital stress
This may not be the right first step if:
- Immediate crisis support
- Situations involving active violence or coercion
- A substitute for emergency services

Your relationship can thrive again
Every couple deserves to experience the joy, connection, and deep meaning that brought you together in the first place. Like the couples I support in Mill Creek, you have the power to transform conflict into understanding and rebuild the partnership you both want.
Building healthy conflict resolution skills isn't just possible—it's within your reach. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. The first step is a brief consultation.
